As a Firewise USA neighborhood, we have the opportunity each year to apply for a grant to help us with projects that the WPOA would not otherwise be able to afford. This year, we applied for and received a $5,100 grant to clear out a dangerously overcrowded, invasive-ridden greenbelt and plant native trees and shrubs to begin the renewal process.
We know this area will require continued attention for several years as the trees and shrubs fill in and as we gradually dig out the remaining invasives by hand, but this is a major improvement for this section of our common area greenbelt, and because most of the downed wood and debris have been removed, it’s now safer from fire than it was before we started.
This project wouldn’t have been possible without volunteers – your Wilderness neighbors – who helped plant 50-75 trees and shrubs there. A heartfelt thanks go to Wade Petersen, Cris Johnson, Albert Rios, Ben Edward, Emily Edwards, Nick Quinn, and Sophia Quinn!
