Ivy Gapping

In 2024, we walked through all 28 acres of greenbelt to “ivy gap” trees. Cait, the Golden Retriever, was a big help with this effort!
Ivy gapping is where we cut the ivy at ground level and again at about 4-5 feet up the trunk of the tree, severing the vines so the tree can live to see another day. For heavy infestations, we do not pull the ivy off the trunk to avoid damaging the tree. The ivy above the cut will die and eventually fall off the tree naturally.

Now that the initial gapping has been completed, we anticipate being able to keep up with this each year as we work in the greenbelts for other purposes.
